"I see that it is by no means useless to travel, if a man wants to see something new."
This is a quote from the book I am currently reading, "Around the World in Eighty Days," by the character Passepartout. Jess gave me this book for my birthday, which was very appropriate, and I figured it was about time to start reading it! I had a lot of time to do that today, since I am just waiting to board another exciting night bus, this time for many more hours ~ 12+ I think! So, when you all are getting up today and going about your day, think of me and wish me well as I am sure I will likely be being thrown around in my seat, trying to sleep! I did wander a few blocks from the hotel today, looking for a place to have lunch, but ended up back at the hotel since there isn't much in this town that looks too good. Also, I have been worried about eating lately as I seem to end up with stomach cramps about every other day, or sometimes a few times a day. I know that I will eventually, hopefully, get used to the foreign bacteria in my gut, but for now it isn't too fun. And I really want to avoid any problems tonight, since 12 hours with a squatter toilet in a bus sounds especially awful. Anyway, I digress. I am really looking forward to getting to a new town, and excited to be in a hostel again where I can meet more people. Also, it would be great to actually get laundry done. I haven't done any since I have been here because nothing dries unless there is direct sunlight, so everything remains damp, sometimes I am not even sure from what! Since I packed so well, with my sister's help, I have been wearing mostly the same clothes for over a week now, so you can imagine how dingy and smelly they are by this point. Currently some of them are hanging up on the roof of the place, because today was actually the first day of sunshine, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they dried so that I can have clean socks and underwear for the bus ride! Sorry if this is too much information for some of you, but this is my traveling life now! The next city I am going to, Hue, is famous for it's tailor-made clothing, so I may spring for a pair of lightweight pants so I don't have to keep wearing my yoga pants everywhere....although it is getting warmer the further South I go, so I may not need them for long. Anyway, I am off to read more while I wait the 4 more hours for my bus. Next post will be from Hue!

ReplyDeleteHey Darlin! I just read your last two posts...What an adventure! I really like all the descriptions you put in there about the strange night bus, the crazy driving, and even your smelly clothes! You had me cracking up about the Vietnamese driving school. So funny! It sounds like you're doing great, and I'm so happy I get to hear about your amazing experiences. Thanks for keeping us all posted. I love you! Simon says MEOW!!! Take care. I'm thinking about you lots. XOXO
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to the cramps and squatter toilets and even the good reading. I read several books I would have Never read, but had to because they were the only Engligh books in a bookstore (which surprisingly turned out to be extremely good). To name a few, Davinci Code, On the Road and all the Harry Potter Series (during my travels in Thailand and Turkey). It is very satisfying to have the right read in your hand. One of these days I will get better at my blog.
ReplyDelete(Third try.) There is a riddle at the end of the book. Verne gives clues throughout the book that will help you solve the riddle if you read carefully. (No peeking at the ending!) Love, Dad
